GETTING TO LAKE PLACID
The village of Lake Placid is in the heart of the Adirondack Park in upstate New York. It is about 5 hours from both New York City and Boston, and about 2 ½ hours from the cities of Albany, Burlington (Vermont), and Montreal. Many will choose to drive to Lake Placid from one of these larger cities as public transportation in the Adirondacks is limited.
Driving Directions from Albany, NY/ Points South:
From Albany, take I-87 North to Exit 30 (Route 73/ Keene Valley/ Keene). At the end of the exit ramp, turn left to take Routes 9 and 73 west towards Keene and Lake Placid. In two miles, bear left to stay on Route 73. After passing through the town of Keene Valley, bear left in Keene to stay on Route 73 towards Lake Placid.
Transit Centers in the Region
Albany International Airport (ALB), ~130 miles from Lake Placid on I-87.
Montreal Pierre-Elliott Trudeau Airport (YUL), ~180 miles from Lake Placid on I-87.
Burlington International Airport (BTV), ~80 miles from Lake Placid across Lake Champlain. There are several ways to get from Burlington to Lake Placid. You will need to plan for either driving across one of two bridges or taking one of three ferries. For more information on the Lake Champlain locations and schedule, please visit www.ferries.com.
Adirondack Regional Airport (SLK), ~20 miles from Lake Placid on Route 86. This airport has scheduled flights from Boston on Cape Air. For more information, please visit www.capeair.com.
Amtrak service is available from Penn Station in New York City to Albany or Westport.
